“Build it and they will come.” Print it on a t-shirt and they’ll wear it was my translation. Or my hope…
I was sketching whilst eating popcorn one day. I thought it was magical that the cinemas in Europe offer sweet popcorn as well as salty. I sketched a box of popcorn falling off a table. I put a little caption under it “sweet over salty.” Yup, I thought that was corny as well. Haha. Scratch that! No pun intended but a plain box of popcorn just didn’t “pop.” So, I decided to go with Neon colours. Neon green and Neon yellow to be exact on a black tee. So the plan was to take it to a local screen printing shop. After a bit of banter with the shop, he quotes me £1,000 for 100 tees. My jaw drops to the floor and my heart follows. “Bruv, you’re having a laugh, right?” He breaks down the cost of the shirts, ink, and screens. So I counter offer. 200 shirts for that price, you keep the screens because we are going to continue to do business together. Oh and by this time I added another graphic. A simple red balloon with a string attached and a deflated balloon connected. My counter offer was met with “you cheeky wanker.” And followed by a handshake. Off to Portobello Market…
