Everyone has a story. For me it all started in London, England. One day I was late for class. I grabbed my books and stuffed them in my backpack. As I ran down the stairs of my flat, my bag ripped and my books and papers scattered. I quickly gathered them and ran upstairs to put them in a plastic grocery bag. At this point I decided I’m just going to miss that class today. I was over it. Haha. I then remembered that I had cut up a pair of jeans that I planned to use to make patches for other jeans. My next idea was to take the bigger pieces and make a messenger bag. Being that I still had to make it to my next class, I was not about to sit there and hand sew denim. I made use of my heavy duty stapler, stapled the denim pieces into place, used the jean pockets as flaps to cover the opening, and used the waistband as a shoulder strap. As I made it to class, my friends and classmates kept asking me “where did you get your bag?” I told them “I made it myself.” When they finally believed me, they asked me to make them one. I told them to provide an old pair of jeans and £25 or £50 (it’s been so long that I can’t remember the exact amount. But it was one of those) and in a few days they had a messenger bag. Sewn version of course. 50+ bags in, that summer I made enough money to not have to have keep a summer job. I thought to myself, “I can do this.” That in turn lead to my first graphic tees. I’ll tell you about that next time…
